Teapot Twilight

This photograph is by far the most fantastic image to stand in front of.  When printed at 24x36 inchs, the image commands the attention of all that pass before it.  The rock formation has been shot by a few other photographers from time to time, but the simple honesty of the rock and deep blue sky in this rendition make for a graphic appeal that is unrivaled.

The shot was taken in a remote Utah park with few visitors.  Looking for all the world like a stone tea pot, the sandstone has a raw skeletal feel that makes it nearly otherworldly.  The stone is believed to be the remnants of tunnels created by an unknown creature under the sea that once covered this area.  The tunnels filled with sand, which turned into sandstone.  Over the eons the softer rock around the tunnels eroded leaving these fantastic shapes which themselves are now eroding.  This is a fast changing geological area and it is unlikely this formation will look the same in only a few years.
