Living Skies Living Skies is all about Saskatchewan. Living here on the prairies, one becomes accustomed to the often amazing skies that whip along over our heads. When the right cloud patterns and the sun cooperate, there can be a fiery explosion of colour during the morning and evening golden hours. This image was captured
along a back road in Southern Saskatchewan. I had no idea where I
was since I was lost. But I think it may be a barn I have seen before
while out shooting with friends. The image required some extensive
work in the digital darkroom to bring the front of the building out
of darkness. The powerful sunset behind the barn combined with a camera's
inability to see light like our eyes do meant that I had to expose
either for the sky or for the barn. In fact I did both! One exposure
was made for the sky and one for the barn and grass in the foreground.
I merged the two together to create what my eyes could see rather
than what the camera could.
